Book a Table! Seats 9Fascination with Titanic’s size, luxury, and extreme tragedy has captivated international audiences for over a century. James Cameron’s December 1997 movie (along with many earlier films) expanded the buzz around the actual sinking of the ship and launched Titanic as an epic legend. This year (2020) marks 108 years since the actual sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic. Come aboard The Event Space At 5550 for an afternoon tea that will not only fill your stomach with afternoon tea delicacies from Doorstep Diner Catering, but warm your heart with the legend that is Titanic.
As you are leisurely enjoying tea, in between courses, you will explore the surface of all things Titanic. Led by Sheryl Rinkol, Titanic author and international Titanic presenter, you will follow the story of Titanic from its technological inception to lavish on-board fittings, learning about the 1912 classes of society onboard and the implication of all this for the Edwardian era. Discover both historical and modern day photographs of international Titanic sights, a sampling of what is found in Sheryl’s 2019 book, Titanic Today. As you enjoy savories, scones, and sweets, you will learn what life on-board Titanic was like, events of that fateful night, and the impact of this disaster on society, even 108 years later.
For your afternoon Titanic tea menu, you can expect the quality and elegance of Doorstep Diner Catering. Your tea will begin with savories: sweet onion and tomato tart, curried egg salad on marble rye tied with a green onion ribbon, salmon on cucumber with soft cheese schmear and dill, and roast beef triangle with horseradish mayonnaise. Traditional buttermilk and cherry scones with clotted cream will be your second course followed by the grand finale of sweets: white chocolate profiteroles, raspberry and lemon Victoria sponge, and chocolate covered strawberries. While you may choose your own variety of tea, you can opt to try a specially blended European Titanic tea.
